[Chiptune] Down Under Zone (Sega Genesis)

I was amazed by the great response my first track got (Pyramid Zone), so I decided to do another one. Once again, this is a music for a non-existent game level. This is the second chiptune I made for the good old Sega Genesis Model 1. Much love for the YM2612 & the SN76489 sound chips.

[Chiptune] Pyramid Zone (Sega Genesis)

Here is a track I did today. This is a music for a non-existent game level. This is the first chiptune I made for the good old Sega Genesis Model 1. Much love for the YM2612 & the SN76489 sound chips.

A cheesy cover hastily cobbled together. Meh.

[Soundfont] Sega Genesis: Sonic 1 & 2 (Raw Samples)


I created this soundfonts (SF2) with the original samples directly extracted from the Sonic 1 & 2 roms (and not recorded from the console audio output). For the first time you can play with the original sound before being played/disorted/destroyed by the bad sound driver.
Sonic 1 used 4 sound samples to use as drums (Kick, Snare, Timpani, SegaChant). They are compressed as headerless 4-bit DPCM file. Sonic 2 used the same samples as Sonic 1 and added 4 more (Clap, Scratch, Tom, Bongo). I also used the game original pitches stored in the cartridge. So, there was one Timpani samples, but you'll have 5 different sounds from it (with adjusted sample rate). 

These are the sounds:

  • 1 Kick (Sonic 1 &2),
  • 1 Snare (Sonic 1 &2),
  • 5 Timpani (Sonic 1 &2),
  • 1 Clap (Sonic 2 only),
  • 1 Scratch (Sonic 2 only),
  • 4 Tom (Sonic 2 only),
  • 4 Bongo (Sonic 2 only).

[Soundfont] Sonic 3 & Knuckles & 3D (Original samples)


I created this soundfonts (SF2) with the original samples directly extracted from the Sonic 3 / Sonic & Knuckles / Sonic 3D roms (and not recorded from the console audio output). Those 3 games used sound samples as drums. They are compressed as headerless 4-bit DPCM file. Sonic 3D actually used 30 of Sonic 3 samples and added 2 more. I also used the game original pitches stored in the cartridge. So, if there was one Tom samples, but you'll have 4 different sounds from it (with adjusted sample rate).

37 from Sonic 3 & Knuckles,
2 from Sonic 3 only,
2 from Sonic 3D only.
